Benefits Of Making A Yeast Starter

This short video shows primary fermentation under way after a short 6 hours of pitching the yeast. The yeast starter was already going when I pitched, and I had fed the yeast twice prior to brew day.

Starters for ale beers can be done the same way as for lager beers, except you can keep the starter at room temperature instead of in the fridge.

If you want to stop fermentation of the ale starter, for whatever reason, just stick it in the fridge and the yeast will drop out.

When it’s cold, pour off the liquid, let it warm up to room temperature and add more wort to increase yeast population.
